The FieldTime browser extension puts your punch clock and manual time entry form one click away in your browser toolbar. Instead of switching tabs to open the FieldTime web app, you click the extension icon, select your project and classification, and clock in or log hours — all from a compact popup that stays out of your way while you work. The extension connects securely to your FieldTime account using the same credentials you use on the web, and every entry flows into Deltek Vantagepoint just like it would from the full application.

Installing the Extension

The FieldTime browser extension is available for Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers (Microsoft Edge, Brave, Arc).
1

Open the Chrome Web Store listing

Go to the Chrome Web Store and search for FieldTime, or use the direct link your FieldTime administrator provided. Confirm the publisher matches your organization before installing.
2

Click Add to Chrome

Click the Add to Chrome button on the store listing page, then click Add extension in the confirmation dialog. Chrome installs the extension and adds the FieldTime icon to your browser toolbar.
3

Pin the extension icon (recommended)

Click the puzzle-piece Extensions icon in the Chrome toolbar, find FieldTime in the list, and click the pin icon next to it. This keeps the FieldTime icon permanently visible in your toolbar so you can open it with one click.
4

Authorize the extension with your FieldTime account

Click the FieldTime toolbar icon. The popup opens to a Sign in screen. Follow the authorization steps in the next section to connect the extension to your account.

Authorizing the Extension

The extension uses a secure OAuth 2.0 authorization flow to connect to your FieldTime account. From your perspective, the process takes only a few seconds and looks like a standard sign-in.
1

Click Sign in in the extension popup

Open the extension by clicking the FieldTime icon in your toolbar. On the sign-in screen, click the Sign in button. A FieldTime authorization page opens in a new browser window or Chrome’s built-in auth flow.
2

Sign in to FieldTime

Enter your FieldTime email address and password on the authorization page. This is the same login you use on the FieldTime web app. If your organization uses single sign-on, you are redirected to your identity provider’s sign-in page instead.
3

Authorization completes automatically

After signing in, FieldTime verifies the request and immediately redirects back to the extension. There is no separate confirmation button — the authorization window closes on its own. FieldTime securely issues the extension a short-lived access token and a refresh token; your password is never stored in the extension.
4

Return to the extension popup

The authorization window closes and the extension popup refreshes to show your time entry interface. You are now signed in and ready to use the extension.
If you uninstall and reinstall the extension, your stored credentials are removed along with the extension data. You must complete the authorization flow again after reinstalling. Open the extension popup, click Sign in, and follow the steps above. This also applies if you clear your browser’s extension storage or reset Chrome to its default settings.

What You Can Do from the Extension

Non-exempt employees — Punch clock

If you are a non-exempt (hourly) employee, the extension shows you the punch clock interface.

Clock in

Select your project, phase (if required), task (if required), and labor classification, then click Clock In. The extension records your clock-in time immediately and the popup switches to an active-punch view showing a running timer.

Clock out

When you are ready to stop, click Clock Out. The completed entry is submitted to FieldTime with your total hours calculated automatically.

Meal breaks

While clocked in, click Start break to log the start of a meal period. Click End break when you return. The break duration is automatically deducted from your total worked hours.

Reassign a project mid-shift

If you switch projects during a shift, update the project and classification fields in the popup while clocked in and click Save Assignment. FieldTime updates the active punch entry without clocking you out.

Exempt employees — Manual time entry

If you are an exempt (salaried) employee, the extension shows the manual entry form instead of the punch clock.

Log hours for today

Choose a project, phase, task, labor classification, and enter your hours. Add optional notes, then click Save. The entry is created in FieldTime immediately.

Edit today's entries

The bottom of the popup lists every manual entry for today. Click any row to load it back into the form for editing. Make your changes and click Save to update the entry.

Selecting Project, Phase, Task, and Labor Classification

The extension loads your assigned projects automatically when you open the popup. Use the dropdown fields to narrow down your selection:
  1. Project — required for all entries. The list shows only projects you are assigned to.
  2. Phase — optional unless your project requires it. The list updates to show only phases that belong to the selected project.
  3. Task — optional. The list shows tasks under the selected phase.
  4. Labor classification — required for all entries. The extension pre-selects the default classification for your project (for example, Non-Prevailing Wage), but you can change it to any classification allowed on that project.
If your project list appears empty or outdated, sign out of the extension and sign back in. The extension refreshes your project assignments and labor classifications during every authorization.

Handling Notifications

FieldTime can send browser notifications to remind you to log time or complete an open punch. The extension’s background service checks for scheduled notifications and displays them in Chrome’s native notification system. What notifications look like: Notifications appear in your system tray or notification center, the same as any Chrome notification. They include the notification title and any relevant context from FieldTime. Notification actions you may see:
  • Snooze — delays the notification by 15 minutes (or another interval your administrator configured).
  • Dismiss — marks the notification as seen and removes it from the schedule.
Clicking a notification opens the extension popup so you can take action immediately. To manage notification permissions: Go to Chrome Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Notifications and find the FieldTime extension entry, or right-click the FieldTime toolbar icon and choose Manage extension. From there you can block or allow notifications at the browser level.

Reinstalling or Re-authorizing the Extension

If the extension shows an error, stops loading your projects, or logs you out unexpectedly, try re-authorizing before reinstalling:
  1. Click the FieldTime toolbar icon.
  2. If you see a Sign in button, click it and complete the authorization flow.
  3. If you are signed in but see an error, click Logout (top-right corner of the popup), then click Sign in again.
If problems persist after re-authorizing, reinstall the extension:
  1. Go to chrome://extensions, find FieldTime, and click Remove.
  2. Reinstall from the Chrome Web Store.
  3. Click the toolbar icon and complete the authorization flow.
Uninstalling the extension permanently removes your stored session tokens. Always complete the full authorization flow after a reinstall — the extension cannot recover a previous session.

Signing Out

To sign out of the extension, open the popup and click Logout in the top-right corner of the header. The extension clears your session tokens and returns to the sign-in screen. Your time entries are already saved in FieldTime and are not affected by signing out. Sign out if you share a browser profile with another user, or if you are changing your FieldTime account credentials and need to reconnect.
