The FieldTime browser extension puts time entry one click away. Whether you are clocking in on a non-exempt punch schedule or logging manual hours as an exempt employee, the extension popup gives you everything you need without leaving your current browser tab.

Supported browsers

The extension is built on Manifest V3 and works in:
  • Google Chrome (version 88 or later)
  • Microsoft Edge (version 88 or later)
The same extension package works in both browsers — your admin installs one file for your entire organization.
Pin the extension to your toolbar for one-click access. In Chrome or Edge, click the puzzle-piece icon in the top-right corner of your browser, find FieldTime, and click the pin icon.

Installation

1

Get the extension from your admin

Your IT administrator installs the extension across your organization via enterprise policy, or shares an unpacked extension package for manual installation in developer mode. You do not install it from the Chrome Web Store.
2

Click the FieldTime icon in your toolbar

After installation, the FieldTime icon appears in your browser toolbar. Click it to open the popup. If you pinned the extension in the step above, it will be visible at all times.
3

Click Sign In

The popup displays a Sign in button. Click it — a FieldTime login window opens in a separate browser tab.
4

Authorize the extension

Enter your work email and password in the FieldTime login window and complete sign-in. FieldTime will redirect back to the extension automatically. You only need to do this once; the extension keeps your session active and refreshes it in the background.
5

Start logging time

The popup loads your assigned projects and shows your time entry controls. You can clock in or log hours immediately.
The browser extension connects to the same FieldTime account as the web app. Any time you log through the extension is immediately visible in your timesheet.

Time entry by employment type

The extension adapts to your employment type automatically. You will see one of two experiences:
Non-exempt employees use the extension to start and end punches in real time. When you are not clocked in, the popup shows:
  • Project, phase, task, and labor classification selectors
  • Today’s total hours and your entries for the day
  • A Clock In button
Select your project, phase, task, and labor classification, then tap Clock In. The popup immediately switches to an active punch view showing an elapsed timer, your current assignment, and your current labor classification. While clocked in, you can:
  • Tap Start break to begin a meal break
  • Tap End break to resume your punch after a break
  • Tap Clock Out to end your shift
The elapsed timer updates every second so you always know how long you have been on the clock.

Push notifications

The extension delivers FieldTime notifications as native Chrome or Edge notifications, including:
  • Meal break reminders when you are approaching the 4.5-hour and 9.5-hour thresholds
  • Timesheet deadline reminders
  • Approval status updates
Make sure your browser allows notifications for the FieldTime extension. If you are not receiving notifications, check your browser’s notification permissions under Settings → Privacy and Security → Site Settings → Notifications (Chrome) or Settings → Cookies and Site Permissions → Notifications (Edge).

Security

The extension uses OAuth 2.0 for authentication:
  • Your email and password are entered only in the FieldTime web login window — they are never sent to or stored by the extension itself.
  • After sign-in, the extension holds an access token in memory and stores only a refresh token in your browser’s secure extension storage.
  • Tokens are never stored in your browser’s web storage, never synced across devices, and never accessible to web pages or other extensions.
  • The refresh token is rotated on every use, so stale tokens cannot be replayed.

Signing out

To sign out of the extension:
  1. Click the FieldTime icon to open the popup.
  2. Click the Logout button in the top corner of the popup.
Signing out revokes your extension session on the FieldTime server, clears the stored tokens, and returns the popup to the sign-in screen. Your timesheet data in the web app is unaffected.
